7 Pounds: 80 Out Of 100 Stars

Another movie where the main performance really carries the film, and although the story at it's base is ages old, i thought this one was a pretty good telling, unlike Gran Torino.

The thing that pisses me off about people and their reactions to this film, and if I may go on a tangent, films in general, especially since the 6th Sense came out, is how people are all like "I got the swerve, i knew what was going to happen, i could see it coming". Hey, guess what geniuses, DUH. Not all films are made with the intent to make the conclusion or reveal hidden. Of course you could see what was going on BECAUSE IT WAS SPELLED OUT PRETTY CLEARLY PRETTY QUICKLY. Not every fucking film is intended as a puzzle. The begging begets the middle begets the end, it's an ages old way of storytelling and just because one film did it one way does not mean that every film is doing that. A reveal at the end does not necessarily mean a reveal for the audience, get over yourselves you fucking marks.

Now, i loved Smith in this movie, and this is coming from a guy who's gone a decade between enjoying Will Smith performances. Everything he does in the movie from his words to his body motions just gripped me. It is so much like Rourke in The Wrestler in that regard.

A man with such anger and venom towards himself and what he's done who has the balls to do what he thinks can in some way atone for his past deeds is played to absolute perfection here. This is a performance that needs to seen.
