The Babysitters: 65 Out Of 100 Stars

Not quite as good a film as it could have been or as it sets itself up to be in the first 20 minutes, but still a fresh and generaly entertaining experience.

Babysitters starts off really strong, focusing on the female lead who is played wonderfully as a mature yet shy girl who has a crush on the father of the kids she's babysitting. The early part of the film focuses really strongly on their relationship and drew me in quickly. If the movie had stayed true to the first few scenes I would of been very happy, unfortunately it sort of dissolves into a modern day female Risky Business.

A sexual encounter is topped off with an extra tip and pretty soon, too soon actually, the female lead is recruiting her friends to "babysit" for other families.

The problem is that none of the film from this point on feels very real. So easily a gaggle of high school girls become hookers, which of course leads to all sorts of problems that are all too predictable and a slew of emotional crises and what not that are a bit all over the place.

It's a love story, it's a comedy, it's a modern day suburban drama, but it's none of these things to any of the depth that it thinks it is.

Still, it's enjoyable enough for what it is and the female lead is very good, I just wish she was given something more substantial to do. The secondary female characters are all played very well and the way teenagers are depicted outside of the hooker settings are really strong. The secondary male characters, in fact just about all the male characters are pretty stock but i can forgive it a bit because this film isn't about them.

An above average if squandered story that has enough good to counter the bad to make it a decent watch.

Go ahead and hire the Babysitters for the night, you'll mildly enjoy it.
